APK Group, a group of companies offering all-in-one solutions for water, gas, energy, information networks and road works, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Wegenbouw Martin in January 2019. The acquisition fits entirely with the strategy of both companies. On the one hand, the implementation of the growth strategy that characterizes APK Group during its existence; and on the other hand, Wegenbouw Martin can further expand its future infrastructure capacities without disclosing the family business character.
Wegenbouw Martin is a Belgium-based road construction company that can look back with pride on a rich history with infrastructure works as its core activity. Back in 1876, it all started with road construction, but Wegenbouw Martin evolved over the years to a provider of public works, constructor of car parks, industrial areas, etc. The company was taken over by current director Leo Janssen in 2007 who kept an eye on the further development without losing sight of the family nature of the company. Under Leo’s responsibility the company grew from an annual turnover of 3,5 MEUR with 15 employees to 6,0 MEUR with circa 40 employees in 2018.
The BDO Belgium’s M&A team, led by Alexi Vangerven, assisted management of Wegenbouw Martin throughout all steps of the acquisition process. “Given its well-established reputation in the sector, its range of machinery and its experienced, high-qualified staff, Wegenbouw Martin was in popular demand by different candidates”, said Alexi.
