19 mei 2020

The 2020 online edition of the “HEC Advisory Awards”, sponsored by BDO, took place on 12th May and was a full success, with more than 400 participants.

The “Advisory Awards” is a competition for HEC students, as part of their course “Analysis of financial statements and financing of a company” taught by Jacques Berwart. This year, the edition was particularly challenging due to the sanitary crisis. Nevertheless, the organizers could bring together more than 400 participants to this online challenge, in which the top four student teams were competing the final phase of team works. They had the opportunity to show their skills in front of a jury of professors, two colleagues from BDO Corporate Finance team and two representatives from Fravodis et Distry Hannut (Detry group), the companies which were analyzed by the students.

The competition was organized in two steps. First of all, the students presented the company’s analysis (strengths, weaknesses, financial statements, main ratios…). These presentations were followed by a debate between students, in which they had to defend the position of a potential buyer or seller of the company.

The winning team went home with several prizes (a drone and several horeca vouchers). Moreover, the student Merit Award was won by Tom Broquet, who concluded with these words: “This contest is a real opportunity for students to stand out and implement their knowledge of financial analysis to a real case study. It allows students to overcome themselves and try to reach the first place and win valuable prizes. Finally, the interactions between the competing teams and the jury are very instructive. It allows us all to learn more about financial analysis.”
