Jean-Paul Lespagnard

Valuation of the operating company and namesake brand of the internationally renowned Belgian fashion & interior designer 

Jean-Paul Lespagnard is a designer born and raised in Liège, Belgium. He started his career working internationally for different entities and personalities (such as Anna Sui in NYC, Annemie Verbeke in Brussels and Meg Stuart in Berlin). 

At the age of 30, he won the international fashion festival of Hyères (France), receiving two awards with his collection “Ich Will ‘nen Cowboy Als Mann”. He later worked for important fashion entities, collaborating among others with Anne Chapelle (Belgian businesswoman sometimes credited with the global recognition of notorious Belgian fashion brands Ann Demeulemeester and Haider Ackermann) and Pascale Mussard, to name a few. 

In 2011, Jean-Paul Lespagnard launched his self-titled brand with a first collection during Paris Fashion Week. Combining fashion with a deep interest in art and popular culture, his collections offer open-minded and multi-sensory experiences. Alongside fashion shows, Jean-Paul worked on several collaborations with famous artists like Damien Jalet or Yelle and brands such as Galler, Jaguar, Eastpak, Hermès and Galeries Lafayette, as well as interior design projects including a 5000 sq/m co-working project for Silversquare (Liège). 

Since 2017, Jean-Paul has gradually evolved into nomadism, and offers today his own vision of fashion & design with this philosophy as a whole universe.
A first concept was born in Spring 2023, when the project materialised into an Escale (ephemeral event) in a fisherman house on the Greek island of Hydra, before moving to Istanbul, Brussels and later Mexico City.  

Given the “start-up” nature of this new project, BDO’s valuation exercise had to rely on a business plan prepared considering the characteristics of the above vision. Valuation methods such as DCF and Relief from Royalty were used for the valuation of the business and the brand, respectively.
