Crossing the finish line as partners

BDO & UGent Racing

UGent Racing is Ghent University’s ‘Formula Student’ Team, boasting more than 80 members. With the support of lots of partners and volunteers, the team is working towards a single goal: putting their theoretical knowledge into practice to build the best self-driving electric racing car in Europe.

One of the new proud partners for academic year 2023-2024 is BDO Belgium. "This kind of partnership is the perfect way to increase our presence on university campuses and give students a taste of our innovative culture," says Kim Theunis, Employer Branding Specialist at BDO Belgium.

UGent Racing: not your everyday student club

UGent Racing was founded in 2020 by four students and is currently embarking on its third academic year. You can regard the team – which consists of technical, economic and marketing profiles – as a modern student club. But with job interviews and selections instead of hazing rituals.

At the end of each academic year in Europe, three major ‘Formula Student’ competitions are held, divided into several disciplines. In addition to competing in terms of speed and construction, electric cars are also putting the team’s business skills to the test. For example, they will have to present a business or investment plan.

UGent Racing’s goals and passion fit seamlessly with the values and vision of BDO Belgium. Kim explains: “Since UGent Racing promotes the same kind of growth and innovative mindset as our organisation does, they seemed like the ideal partner to team up - or rather gear up - with.”

“UGent Racing shares the same growth and innovative mindset that we want to bring to the forefront at BDO."

Putting BDO Digital Advisory more on the map

Like any good partnership, the collaboration between BDO and UGent Racing brings numerous benefits. For BDO Belgium, Kim sees two main areas of interest: “BDO’s visibility on UGent Racing’s car, clothing, events, etc. will make more students familiar with our organisation, while our overall presence on the Ghent University campuses will also increase. In addition, this initiative shows BDO’s vision for the future and highlights more of what we do at BDO Digital Advisory. Not many students seem to be familiar with this last aspect yet.”

As part of the collaboration, colleagues from BDO Digital Advisory will present two workshops to UGent Racing members to improve their digital and soft skills. “We are very curious about this year’s car – and we look forward to seeing our BDO logo on and off the track,” Kim concludes.
