Balio Studio

A family story of innovation

Balio Studio is a testament to the power of family. What started as a dream rooted in childhood, playing and tinkering with an Atari console, became a thriving animation and video game studio.

A tale of 3 brothers

Founded in 2009, each of the Baglio brothers brought their expertise: Adriano with his self-taught background in game design, Frédéric with his engineering skills and Massimo with a strong foundation in marketing and finance. Their complementary skills allowed them to take the leap from corporate careers to entrepreneurship, driven by a desire for greater freedom and satisfaction in their work.

Finding success

“We thought we could create a game, sell it, and watch the money roll in,” says Massimo Baglio. But the reality of game commercialisation was far more complex. With persistence and each other’s support, the brothers learned to adapt and bounce back. Their breakthrough came with a partnership with a game publisher, that led to over 2 million downloads of one of their games. This success was a springboard for securing a meeting with the CEO of Dargaud, a French comic book publisher. A relationship that continues to this day, with game budgets growing significantly over the years.

Turning challenges into opportunities

Between 2015 and 2018, as the gaming market faced a downturn, Balio Studio adapted by developing mobile applications for clients such as the Belgian Senate, European schools and even Ferrari! In 2018, the brothers returned to their initial passion: video games. They focused on new-generation consoles, and the studio has continued to grow, securing investments and working on their own projects. All while maintaining their core values and family-driven spirit.

Investing in the future

Today, Balio Studio faces the challenge of finding skilled talent to support its growth. With more than half of their employees coming from abroad, they have forged partnerships with local educational institutions to help prepare the next generation of game developers. Massimo believes that supporting young talent is essential for the industry’s growth.

We need to give young people the chance to gain experience here, or risk losing them to opportunities abroad.
