For decades, Bostoen has been synonymous with sustainable new home construction. This focus on sustainability and ecological construction is deeply rooted in its DNA and operations. Its no-nonsense approach and long-term vision made the company a major player in the property market to this day.
A journey through time… 1973 to 2024
Bostoen was founded in 1973 by visionary entrepreneur Francis Bostoen. Steady and driven, he built the company’s reputation. He is not alone in his unique drive to work non-stop. Francis was assisted by his wife Marie-Ange Dossche, who also raised their three children.
By the 1990s, the ‘Bostoen home’ had become a fixture on the real estate market. Francis further professionalised the company by surrounding himself with a strong team. This includes Johan De Vlieger, who first worked as an external consultant and then joined full-time. In the early 2000s, the two eldest children – Stephan and Danielle – joined the company. Stephan took charge of the construction side and Danielle the land bank and permits.
Stephan took over as CEO after a tragic accident in 2008 that left Francis in a coma. As visionary as his father, he introduced a bold vision in 2009: Bostoen would build only passive houses. Although the market was forward-looking, it was not yet ready for this radical change. Sales dropped drastically. In 2016, Johan finally took over as CEO after Stephan’s departure and a rough period under an external CEO. He successfully brought the company back to financial health with the same motivation and values as founder Francis Bostoen.
