Automation in Reporting

Boosting Efficiency in Audit Through Internal Innovation

Reporting in audit can be a very time-intensive and repetitive task. To improve efficiency and automate this process, five colleagues teamed up to come up with a solution. Making them winners of BDO Dragons' Den, our internal innovation competition.

Two-sided benefits

The idea of the project is simple, yet effective: implementing a flow of automated information during the reporting phase, with the ambition of reducing the time and energy spent on this task.

This innovative solution provides both quantitative and qualitative benefits. First of all, the increased efficiency created by this automation saves our colleagues loads of time. And secondly, more people can now dedicate their time to the audit aspect and there is less chance of errors in the reporting. Resulting in higher quality of work.

Organisation-wide applicable

“We had to think outside the box to make this project applicable to all our other business lines.”

The winners of BDO Dragons’ Den did not have a lot of time to relish their victory, as they had to get to work to practically implement the flow in the audit department. The plan is that the audits currently being performed will soon be reported through the automated method

Once the implementation is on point within BDO’s audit department, the tools can also be developed for our other business lines. In time, these automation processes will provide efficient reporting for all BDO employees.

The team behind the automation in reporting project consists of:

  • Steffen Moerman - Audit
  • Jef Vanthienen - Audit
  • Catho Bynens - Audit
  • Frederick van Maldegem - Audit
  • Taulant Asllani – Digital
