Kristof’s parents passed the torch to Angelique and Kristof in 1995. They then converted the pig farm into a modern farm that respected the past. For example, their strong commitment to vertical integration gave Brasvar more control over everything. Many optimisations followed in 2006, such as an automated and central feed kitchen, several new silos and underground pipelines.
Many additional innovations are taking place during these renovations. More space and comfort for the pigs, green energy thanks to manure processing and solar panels, optimal ammonia disposal, etc.
These investments improve sustainability and animal welfare on the pig farm. Aspects that are crucial in a society that continues to focus on the effect on climate and the carbon footprint of food.
In 2010, the Brasvar brand was created after improving the breeding process and flavour of pork using organic feed. Typical sales markets for pig farms are slaughterhouses. At Brasvar, the way of working is completely different.
They supply directly to butchers and chefs looking for higher-quality meat. Deliveries to order and to wholesalers occur weekly, so there is a short chain to restaurants and consumers at home. This safeguards Brasvar’s consistent quality and offers full transparency about the origin of the meat.
The family also often attends trade fairs to stay in touch with clients and respond to their needs and expectations in innovative ways.
Brasvar’s future almost has new caretakers… its fourth generation. Raised on the farm, Angelique and Kristof’s children know everything inside out. The youngest son, Louis, and daughter Elise already work in the family business. The other son, Henri, currently works as a plant manager in Spain.
Brasvar set up a family charter with the help of BDO Belgium to keep everything on track during the transition to the new generation. This charter lays down everything about the company, including finances, roles and its values and vision.
Everything is open for discussion, so the family invests in the company’s future and safeguards a healthy dynamic way of working. So, Angelique and Kristof can reap the benefits of their success without worries.

Besides family planning, Brasvar also monitors current and emerging challenges. For example, changing environmental legislation and required future investments. In 2022, the company continued its sustainable growth by opening a new site in Hansbeke entirely according to the latest environmental standards.
The family business continues to stand out in the market. It does so with its constant focus on sustainability, use of residual products, energy generation and emission reduction. With a keen eye for quality and sustainable operations, Brasvar aims for the conscious consumer. It is ready to meet the challenges of the future.
