BDO has been a successful provider of interim management solutions ever since 2008. In those 15 years, the interim management market evolved a lot.
For starters, the number of candidates for freelance temporary assignments grew incrementally. Many more people decide to work for their own account and oftentimes create a management company as a carrier for their business. A second phenomenon is that the interim management market is essentially unregulated. For a company to start an interim management business, there is no approval or accreditation needed and no formal set of criteria to meet. This caused the number of (spin-off) businesses in the field of interim management to grow dramatically over the last few years.
Those new candidates as well as players created a thriving competition. Whereas interim management agencies in the early days were rather “all-purpose” in their approach, along the way there was more specialisation. The market was split up into segments and sub-segments, with no niche left untouched.
Two other important aspects that mark the interim management market are the rapidly developing online platforms and the importance of personal networks for obtaining assignments.
